Episode Details

Today's reading covers Judges 9 and Proverbs 14:33–35. The reflection traces Abimelech's violent rise to power, Jotham's parable of the trees, and the destruction of Shechem, framing the chapter as a vivid low point in Israel's downward spiral, where jealousy and conspiracy culminate in Abimelech's death at the hands of an unnamed woman.

In Proverbs 14:33–35, the discussion covers wisdom as an internal reality that nonetheless makes itself known, the honor righteousness brings to a nation versus the reproach that follows sin, and the favor given to one who deals wisely.
