A Reflection For When We Want To See Someone Held Responsible
Sometimes something happens that is so wrong that we demand accountability.
Scripture promises accountability. But forgiveness comes first.
“The Lord is slow to anger
and abounding in steadfast love,
forgiving iniquity and transgression,
but by no means clearing the guilty…”
-from Numbers 14:18
That last phrase might be better understood as: forgiveness does not erase accountability.
Forgiveness keeps accountability from becoming revenge.
Because if we want justice rather than revenge, we have to forgive first, as God does.
