Sunscreen chemical homosalate under review in Australia
Published 3 weeks, 3 days ago
Description
Australian researchers analysed urine samples from nearly 19,000 people and found children showing high levels of homosalate, a potential hormone disruptor commonly used in sunscreens. Europe has already halved the acceptable amount of homosalate in sunscreen products, while Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration is reviewing sunscreen chemicals with an interim report due this year. Separately, 11 sunscreen companies are claiming $19 million from Wild Child Laboratories, the manufacturer of 20 sunscreens including Ultraviolet, after the company was forced to recall products over false SPF claims and subsequently went into liquidation.
