Australia recorded 313 drowning deaths in 2026, a decrease from the previous year's record high but still significantly above the decade average. Nearly half of the fatalities occurred along the coast, with rivers and creeks accounting for 68 deaths. Older Australians represented almost one-third of all drowning victims.
