Published 3 weeks, 4 days ago
Description
Three staff members at a Sydney accounting firm have been arrested over allegations they were part of a syndicate that defrauded major Australian banks of up to $500 million. Police allege the scheme used stolen identities and fake documents to secure loans for non-existent luxury cars before expanding into property and business finance. Thirty-three people have been charged so far, with dozens more arrests expected in what is being described as one of Australia's biggest alleged financial crimes.
