Ep 213 - Jimmy Grant: The Strongman Who Built a Different Kind of Law Firm

Season 6 Episode 213 Published 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Description

Joshua Stein sits down with James “Jimmy” Grant, co-founder of Georgia Trial Attorneys, for a conversation about building a different kind of law firm, finding your strengths, and the value of genuine relationships.

Jimmy shares his path from civil engineering and the marching band at Georgia Tech to prosecution, personal injury litigation, and eventually starting a firm with partner Mark Kirchen. He explains how a pivotal business-coaching conversation led them to abandon the traditional personal injury model and focus exclusively on serving as the outsourced litigation department for other firms. GTA has since grown from six partner firms in 2021 to 98 at the time of recording. The conversation explores why Jimmy and Mark took on different roles, why Jimmy now focuses primarily on sales and business development, and how simple, consistent relationship-building continues to drive the firm's growth.

The conversation also moves well beyond the law. Jimmy talks about becoming a competitive strongman, finishing 12th at America's Strongest Master, and growing up as the son of accomplished golfer Jim Grant, the low amateur at the 1966 Masters. He shares stories from caddying for his father at the 1999 U.S. Senior Open, the lessons he has carried from sports into business, and why he is perfectly comfortable being the lawyer whose website photo features a Flash T-shirt.
