Dark Energy Debate Reignites Again - A new analysis of more than 1,700 Type Ia supernovae argues cosmic acceleration may weaken or even vanish after correcting for progenitor age, while a companion study defends dark energy. The clash puts one of cosmology’s biggest ideas back under intense scrutiny.

JWST Reveals Quasar Impostor Galaxies - James Webb Space Telescope data suggest two supposed faint quasars in the early universe are actually ultra-bright, compact starburst galaxies packed with very massive stars. The result could reshape how astronomers model cosmic reionization.

Interstellar Comet Shows Methanol Excess - Observations of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS show extraordinarily high methanol relative to hydrogen cyanide, offering a rare chemical fingerprint from another planetary system. The finding expands our picture of how diverse comet chemistry can be across the galaxy.

Mars Return Race Builds Momentum - China’s reported 2028 Mars sample-return timeline, NASA’s expanding Deep Space Network, and Blue Origin’s Mars telecom contract show that the infrastructure for the next era of Mars exploration is accelerating. These developments blend science goals with strategic competition.

Commercial Space Hits Investment Milestones - European launcher Isar Aerospace reached orbit on its second flight, Stoke Space closed an initial $1 billion Series E, and Pixxel raised $100 million for hyperspectral Earth observation. Together, the stories highlight strong momentum across launch, satellites, and planetary-scale data services.

Sky Surveys And Earth Monitoring - DESI’s enormous new sky map and NASA’s satellite-based coverage of Anak Krakatau show how space science spans both the largest cosmic structures and urgent Earth hazards. Even a visually striking APOD feature on the eclipsing binary XZ Andromeda adds to the day’s multi-scale astronomy picture.

Dark Energy Debate Reignites Again
We begin with cosmology, where a fresh analysis of the Pantheon Plus sample of more than 1,700 Type Ia supernovae is questioning whether the universe is really accelerating the way the standard dark-energy model says it is. The new work argues that if supernova brightness depends more strongly on the age of the stars that produced them, then part of the apparent acceleration signal could be a bias rather than a feature of the cosmos itself. The authors also report that the signal appears direction-dependent, which would be awkward for a smooth, universal dark energy component. But this is not a consensus shift yet: a companion study in the same journal issue says acceleration remains robust, so for now this is a serious challenge, not a confirmed overthrow of dark energy.
