When Love Has to Tell the Truth
Description
What should Christians do when someone we love is walking in serious sin?
In Pot 3, Cup 8 of Grace in the Grind, Cody Hudson examines biblical correction, church discipline, repentance, and restoration—and why Christian love cannot always remain silent.
Church discipline can sound harsh, controlling, or even abusive.
And sadly, it has sometimes been practiced that way.
But that is not the picture Scripture gives us.
Jesus describes a patient process of personal confrontation in Matthew 18. Galatians 6 calls believers to restore someone caught in sin with gentleness. First Corinthians 5 shows that persistent, unrepentant sin can harm the whole body. And 2 Corinthians 2 reminds us that when repentance comes, discipline should give way to forgiveness, comfort, and reaffirmed love.
This episode explores:
• Why loving someone sometimes requires telling the truth • What Matthew 18 actually teaches about confronting sin • The difference between correction and condemnation • Why not every disagreement is a church-discipline issue • Why persistent, unrepentant sin cannot simply be ignored • How gentleness and holiness belong together • Why the whole church shares responsibility for one another • Why discipline should aim at restoration rather than punishment • How Christians should respond when genuine repentance occurs • Why grace never means making peace with destructive sin
Ignoring sin can feel compassionate.
Sometimes it is simply easier.
But biblical love wants something better for our brothers and sisters than leaving them alone in what is destroying them.
At the same time, holiness never gives Christians permission to become harsh, self-righteous, controlling, or humiliating.
Biblical correction is not about winning.
It is about restoration.
The goal is not to make someone pay.
The goal is to gain your brother or sister back.
Sometimes love comforts.
Sometimes love carries burdens.
And sometimes love has to tell the truth.
