In this premier matchup, two 90s classic music biopics go head-to-head in a battle of historical accuracy versus legendary lead performances: 1993’s What’s Love Got to Do with It (starring Angela Bassett and Laurence Fishburne) vs. 1997’s Selena (starring Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos).

Matt and Jenn break down:

• Breakout Performances: How Angela Bassett’s career-defining portrayal of Tina Turner and J.Lo’s star-making turn as the Queen of Tejano music set the standard for iconic biopic acting.
• The Truth Factor: Tina Turner’s real-life thoughts on What's Love Got to Do with It taking dramatic license vs. how closely Abraham Quintanilla and the Quintanilla family guided the making of Selena.
• Behind the Scenes & On-Screen Intensity: The physical dedication behind Laurence Fishburne’s terrifying portrayal of Ike Turner, the sheer power of Tina Turner’s re-recorded soundtrack, and why J.Lo’s lip-syncing gets a pass.
• The Final Verdict: Which film rushes its third act, which performance steals the show, and which movie officially advances to the next round of the tournament bracket!

Whether you’re a fan of 90s cinema, iconic music icons, or love a good pop-culture debate, hit play to see which movie moves one step closer to taking the ultimate biopic crown!
