Flooding concerns spark Olympic rowing venue debate

Flooding concerns spark Olympic rowing venue debate

Published 3 weeks, 3 days ago
Description
Contingency plans are being developed for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic rowing competitions amid flooding concerns at the proposed Fitzroy River venue in Rockhampton. National federations from Britain, New Zealand and Germany have raised questions about the course's suitability, prompting the City of Moreton Bay Council to propose a $250 million permanent international flatwater centre at Lawnton in Brisbane's outer northern suburbs. Queensland's Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie maintains the rowing will be held in Rockhampton or not at all.
