September 8 | Stay Flexible
Description
Today’s reading from Proverbs 3–5 and 2 Corinthians 1 invites us to reflect on what it means to stay flexible when life does not unfold the way we expected. Both passages remind us that spiritual formation includes learning to trust God when plans shift, circumstances change, and the path in front of us looks different than the one we originally imagined.
In Proverbs 3–5, wisdom is connected to trust, attentiveness, and a willingness to let God direct our paths. Rather than leaning entirely on our own understanding, we are formed through a steady rhythm of listening, obedience, and learning to recognize that God may lead us in ways we did not anticipate.
In 2 Corinthians 1, Paul explains why his travel plans changed and responds to people who questioned his reliability because of it. His words reveal the importance of holding our plans with humility, remaining aware of God’s direction, and remembering that a changed plan does not always mean a lack of faithfulness. Sometimes calling requires us to adjust without losing our sense of purpose.
Together, these passages invite us to consider how tightly we hold our expectations. They remind us that wisdom is not found in controlling every outcome, but in becoming people who can remain steady, trusting, and responsive when God allows the direction of our plans to change.
