Description
Week 2 — Your Body Is Listening to Everything — Are You?
What if the tension in your neck isn’t just about your neck?
What if your breathing, nervous system, fascia, muscles, thoughts and emotions are all part of a much bigger conversation happening throughout your body?
In Week 2 of Somatic in September, Heidi Hadley takes us beneath the surface of Australia’s spectacular Great Barrier Reef to explore a powerful idea:
Your body is not a collection of separate parts. It is an interconnected system.
Just as a coral reef thrives through thousands of living relationships, your body relies on constant communication and adaptation.
Your fascia, muscles, nervous system, breathing and sensory experiences don’t operate independently. They continually influence one another.
And when we stop focusing solely on individual “problem areas” and begin paying attention to the relationships between the parts, something can shift.
Perhaps wellbeing isn’t about achieving perfection.
Perhaps it’s about improving connection.
🌊 In This Episode, You’ll Explore:
- Why your body is more interconnected than you may realise
- What the Great Barrier Reef can teach us about the human body
- The relationship between fascia, muscles and your nervous system
- Why focusing only on the area of discomfort can miss the bigger picture
- How breathing and sensory awareness influence your whole system
- Why diversity and adaptability can create resilience
- How thoughts and physical sensations continually influence our experience
- Why wellbeing doesn’t require every part of you to be “perfect”
- How simple observation can help develop greater body awareness
- The importance of curiosity when exploring patterns of tension and movement
🌿 Your Somatic in September Practice
Take five minutes this week to observe something in nature.
Watch the waves.
Notice clouds moving across the sky.
Observe birds flying, trees moving in the breeze or water flowing.
Rather than concentrating on one individual element, notice how everything works together.
Then bring that same curiosity to your body.
Notice your breathing.
Notice your shoulders.
Notice your jaw.
Notice your eyes.
Notice where you’re holding effort — and where you feel ease.
There’s nothing you need to force or fix.
Simply observe.
Sometimes becoming aware of the relationships within our body can give our nervous system new information and new possibilities.
🎧 Your Guided Somatic Practice
To accompany this episode, Heidi is sharing a 33-minute gentle movement practice designed to explore and release patterns of tension around the:
• Neck
• Shoulders
• Ribs
• Back

Think of this practice not as forcing your body to change, but as offering your nervous system new sensory information and a different conversation.
Next week, we meet one of Australia’s most misunderstood animals — the crocodile — and explore why the protective patterns we develop aren’t necessarily mistakes.
They may be intelligent strategies your nervous system learned for survival.
For now, remember:
“The reef doesn’t thrive because of one single coral. It thrives because of relationships.”
Your body may be much the same.
Healing and wellbeing aren't only about one part.
They're about the relationship between all the parts and the relationship you have with yourself.
