Gil Halsted and Amitabh Pal talked with Maung Zarni who has shared his work and his thoughts with World View often in the past. Zarni is foremost a peace activist and educator although he also holds a number of academic degrees including a Ph.D. from the School of Education at the UW-Madison. Zarni has talked about peace in various troubled places but today we specifically asked him to tell us about chances for peace in his homeland, Myanmar. He discussed his own plan and proposal for peace and how he looked for a partner to work with him. While business and trade flourish and the “civilian” government has been somewhat successful, Myanmar is still mired in war and animosity. At least a million Rohingya languish in camps in Bangladesh and hundreds of thousands more make their way with scant resources in other countries in the region.
