Description
Support the Show when you Buy Me a Coffee. Thank you.
Can you grieve someone before they die?
Can you experience grief over something you haven't actually lost?
Are you preparing yourself for something that may happen someday—or are you already grieving it today?
Those are some of the questions Bill Monty explores in this episode of Bill Monty’s Guide for Getting Older.
(HINT: The answer to the first question is yes.)
In this episode of Bill Monty’s Guide for Getting Older, I explore a subject that many people experience but may not have a name for: anticipatory grief, sometimes called premature grieving.
Anticipatory grief isn't necessarily about a loss that is happening right now. It can occur when we spend time thinking, worrying, imagining, or emotionally preparing for a loss that we believe is coming someday.
And sometimes, the hardest part isn't the loss itself.
It's living through the loss in your head before it ever happens.
