Psalm 61: What To Do When Life Feels Heavy

Episode 1216 Published 3 weeks, 2 days ago
Description

When life feels heavy, the hardest part is often figuring out what to say to God. We open Psalm 61 and start right where David starts: “Listen to my cry… when my heart is overwhelmed.” If you’ve ever felt like you’re carrying one too many things at once, this is a short psalm with a clear path, and we slow down long enough to let it actually land.

We talk about what it means to ask God to “lead me to the towering rock of safety” and why Scripture keeps calling Him our refuge and fortress. Then we linger on one of the most comforting images in the Psalms: being safe beneath the shelter of God’s wings. It’s a picture of protection in the storm, and it’s also an invitation to rest in God’s presence when you don’t have the words, the energy, or the faith for a big performance.

We also get practical about heavy seasons. Sometimes the weight comes from good things that are still demanding, like raising kids while working. Sometimes it comes from grief, medical issues, starting something new, or even consequences you’re still walking through. Heaviness doesn’t automatically mean you failed, but it is a signal to stop holding what doesn’t belong to you and to hand it back to the Lord. We close with a simple challenge you can do today: turn everything else off and pray, “Heavenly Father, can we just sit a while?” then we pray for peace that passes understanding.

If Psalm 61 meets you where you are, subscribe, share this with someone carrying a lot, and leave a five-star review so more people can find daily Bible encouragement.
