Are You Taking Responsibility for Someone Else’s Feelings When Dating?

Published 6 hours ago
Description

What if you’re spending so much time worrying about how someone else might feel that you’re losing sight of what you actually want?

In this episode, I share a question from a recent coaching session about dating multiple people, liking them all, and feeling unsure about who to commit to — alongside the worry, “I don’t want them to have any awkward feelings.”

It’s a question that opens up a much bigger dating pattern: taking responsibility for other people’s emotions.

We’ll explore:

  • Why you can’t control how someone else thinks or feels
  • The difference between caring about someone’s feelings and taking responsibility for them
  • Why uncomfortable emotions aren’t necessarily a sign that you’ve done something wrong
  • How other people’s feelings can provide them with important information about their needs, wants and boundaries
  • How to use your own values — rather than someone else’s emotional reaction — to guide your dating decisions
  • What it looks like to date with honesty, integrity and self-trust

You can be kind, considerate and respectful without trying to manage everyone else’s emotional experience.
