Tonight I was joined once again by Monica Schaefer for a wide-ranging and deeply controversial conversation about free speech, censorship, social engineering, feminism, family life, and the way both of us feel Western society has changed over the decades. We talked about the Fabian Society, Common Purpose, the Tavistock Institute, the decline of traditional family structures, the changing role of mothers and fathers, online dating, childcare, schooling, and the broader cultural shift from modesty and stability towards atomisation, dependency and confusion. Along the way we also touched on books and films such as 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, and reflected on how literature, cinema and media can shape - or reveal - political narratives.

We also spoke about Canada and Britain, political prisoners, Monica’s brother Alfred, the importance of preserving books and historical memory, and the continuing battle over what may or may not be openly discussed in public. As ever, the conversation wandered into questions of health, diet, technology, AI, weather manipulation, and whether society is being steered towards deeper control or nearing a breaking point. It was one of those classic Fockham Hall discussions that covered a huge amount of ground - serious, provocative, occasionally dark, but with the usual determination to keep asking awkward questions and to have a bloody good laugh while doing it.
