Episode Details

Yours Truly Johnny Dollar presents “The Open Town Matter Part 1,” originally broadcast on CBS on July 23, 1956. This is the first installment of a five-part serial, sometimes listed as episode 443. Bob Bailey stars as freelance insurance investigator Johnny Dollar.

Johnny is assigned by Ralph Kearns of Great Plains Guarantee to investigate a $50,000 life-insurance claim after Greensport, Missouri, police chief Edgar Blake is shot to death. With Blake’s young widow filing for payment almost immediately, Dollar heads to the small Midwestern town to determine whether the claim is legitimate. Written by Les Crutchfield and directed by Jack Johnstone.

Yours Truly Johnny Dollar presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
