Description
You’re getting the kids dressed.
You’re getting everyone out the door.
You’re sitting in the church pew.
You’re opening the Bible at home.
You’re praying for your children.
You’re trying to faithfully point your family toward Christ…
But your husband isn’t walking alongside you spiritually.
What do you do when you’re the one carrying much of the spiritual responsibility for your children—and you desperately wish you weren’t doing it alone?
In this episode of the Truth Over Trends Podcast, I’m sitting down with my friend Sara, a woman from my own church who has actually walked this road.
Sara came to know Christ later in life, after her marriage and family were already established. As her faith changed, she found herself learning how to follow Christ, take her children to church, and point them toward the Lord without necessarily having her husband walking beside her spiritually.
Today, Sara has been married for nearly 43 years. Her children are grown, she’s now a grandmother, and she has something incredibly valuable to offer the mom who’s still in the middle of it:
Perspective from the other side.
We’re talking honestly about:
- Coming to Christ later in marriage
- Taking your children to church without your husband
- Carrying the weight of spiritual discipleship largely on your own
- Loving and respecting your husband through disappointment and loneliness
- What Sara sees differently now that her children are adults
- What she wishes she could tell her younger self
- Trusting God with your husband and your children’s hearts
- God’s faithfulness through decades of marriage and motherhood
This isn’t an episode about criticizing husbands who aren’t attending church.
It’s an episode about encouraging the woman who is faithfully showing up anyway.
You cannot save your children.
You cannot change your husband.
But you can faithfully follow Christ, love your family, disciple your children, pray, and trust God with what you cannot control.
And if you’re the woman getting everyone ready for church by yourself again this Sunday, I especially hope you’ll listen.
