Jesus of Nazareth: His Life, Teachings & Legacy | A Sleep Story from the Pioneers
Season 1
Episode 9
Published 1 month, 1 week ago
Description
A calm, carefully researched bedtime journey through the life, teachings and extraordinary legacy of Jesus of Nazareth — the Jewish teacher from Galilee whose life became the foundation of Christianity and whose words have shaped human thought, ethics, spirituality and culture for nearly two thousand years.
Tonight’s story takes us back to first-century Galilee and Judea. We follow Jesus as carefully as the surviving evidence allows — from Nazareth and the world of ordinary Jewish life, through his baptism by John the Baptist, the beginning of his public ministry, the gathering of followers and the journeys through villages, roads and communities around the Sea of Galilee.
Along the way, we explore some of the teachings most closely associated with Jesus: the kingdom of God, love of God and neighbour, mercy, forgiveness, prayer, justice, care for the poor and excluded, and the parables through which he invited people to see ordinary life differently.
The journey eventually leads south to Jerusalem, the Temple, the final meal with his followers and his execution by Roman crucifixion under Pontius Pilate. We then follow what happened after his death — the remarkably early conviction among his followers that he had risen, and the growth of the movement that would become Christianity.
Throughout the story, historical reconstruction and Christian faith are treated with care and respect. Where the historical record can take us, we follow it. Where questions of faith begin — including the meaning of Jesus’ identity and resurrection — those beliefs are presented as beliefs rather than quietly turned into historical claims.
Told slowly and gently for sleep, relaxation and quiet late-night listening. There is nothing you need to remember and nowhere you need to get to. Simply close your eyes, settle in, and let the story carry you.
Sleep Stories from the Pioneers is a series of calm, research-led journeys through the lives and ideas of the people who changed how we understand ourselves.
