Idaho Student M*rders, A Death Penalty & A Plea - BRYAN KOHBERGER

Published 1 day, 16 hours ago
Description

Bryan Kohberger, convicted of murdering University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, is attempting to undo the guilty plea that ended his death-penalty case in July 2025. Kohberger pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and burglary, receiving four consecutive life sentences without parole plus ten years.

In 2026, however, he filed for post-conviction relief, claiming he is innocent and alleging that his former attorneys pressured him into accepting the plea through threats, false information or unfulfilled promises. His new legal team is reviewing roughly 68 terabytes of case material and has also asked to disqualify Judge Steven Hippler and move the proceedings back to Latah County. Prosecutors are seeking dismissal of the petition, while major post-conviction proceedings are scheduled for June 2027.
