Description

What happens when a song becomes too dangerous to be heard?

And what happens when technology can imitate the artists who created the music in the first place?

In this episode of Divine Design Podcast, I sit down with Norwegian artist Pål Moddi Knutsen, known as Moddi, for a conversation about music, censorship, AI and the human voice.

Through his remarkable "Unsongs" project, Moddi brought banned and silenced songs from around the world back into the light. Songs about war, oppression, religion, violence and voices someone, somewhere, decided should not be heard.

But today, artists are facing a very different challenge. AI can learn from decades of human creativity, generate music in seconds and flood the world with songs that never came from a lived human experience.

So what happens to the value of the real artist? And in a world where almost anyone can create almost anything, will the authentic human voice become more important than ever?

We also explore Sámi and Kven history, freedom of expression, parenthood, privilege, protest music and what Moddi has learned from carrying silenced songs across borders. A conversation about much more than music.

It is ultimately a conversation about who gets to have a voice and what happens when that voice is taken away.
