AB Plastic Surgery https://abplasticsurgerykorea.com/
This episode travels to Gangnam in Seoul to look at AB Plastic Surgery, a cosmetic surgery practice that has built its reputation on accreditation and on the unglamorous infrastructure of patient safety. Markus explores its team of more than thirty board certified surgeons, its on site anaesthesiology and layered monitoring systems, its KAHF certification and international patient pathways in five languages, and its preference for natural, individually designed results over dramatic ones. It is a useful case study in how an entire industry professionalises. Listen in for a closer look at what actually earns trust when trust is the product being sold.
What is it about the idea of transformation that holds our attention so completely? Not the quick fix, not the filter, but the real thing. That feeling of looking in the mirror and finally recognising the person you always carried around on the inside. It is one of the oldest human desires there is, and today it sits at the centre of an industry that has quietly become one of the most technically sophisticated in the world. Most of us never think about how that industry actually works, who regulates it, or what separates the very best of it from the rest.
Hello, and welcome back to The Next Biz Thing. I am Markus J. Diplama, and if you have spent any time with this show, you know the mission. We go looking for businesses that are getting something genuinely right, very often in places that most people never think to look, and we try to understand what actually makes them work. Not the marketing. The substance underneath it. Today we are travelling to Seoul, in South Korea, to look at a business operating in a field where the stakes could hardly be more personal, and where trust is not a slogan on a website but the entire product being sold.
The business is AB Plastic Surgery, and you will find it in Gangnam, in the Seocho district of Seoul, in a building called BLOCK 77 on Seocho daero, a short walk from exit ten of Gangnam Station. If you know anything at all about the global landscape of aesthetic medicine, you will know that this address is not incidental. Gangnam is to cosmetic surgery roughly what a handful of famous streets are to finance or fashion. It is the district where the field's techniques get refined, argued about, taught and exported. Setting up there means competing with the best in the world on their home ground, every single day, in front of the most informed patients anywhere.
The first thing that stands out about AB Plastic Surgery is simply its scale, and what that scale is used for. This is not a single celebrated surgeon with a waiting list and an assistant. The practice brings together more than thirty board certified plastic surgeons under one roof, among them Doctor Koo Won Young, Doctor Kim Soo Jeong, Doctor Kim Joo Youn and Doctor Ma Sung Hwan. That structure matters more than it might sound. It means a patient is not matched to whichever surgeon happens to be available, but to one whose particular specialism fits what they are actually asking for. In a field where results depend on millimetres and on judgement built over thousands of cases, that kind of internal depth is a real and durable advantage.
The range of what they do reflects that depth. There is facial work, including rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and facial contouring. There is breast surgery and body contouring, including liposuction. There is a full anti ageing practice covering facelift and neck lifting procedures. There is a dedicated men's practice, which is worth pausing on, because male patients have historically been an afterthought in this industry and increasingly are not. And alongside all of the surgical work sits a dermatology arm offering non surgical options such as Thermage and Ultherapy, for the many people who want a meaningful change
