Trump was WARNED not to give this interview

Published 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Description

At 5 a.m. yesterday, an interview Donald Trump was apparently warned not to give went live for the entire world to see. "A lot of people said, 'Don't do this interview,'" he admitted. Within minutes, we understood exactly why. When confronted with the accusation that he is quite literally building monuments to himself, Trump didn't deny it. He agreed. "That's true," he said. "Nobody will do it once I'm gone. When I leave here, nobody will."

Based on the events of 9-4-2026

The Breakdown:

  • A New York Magazine interview by Ben Terris revealing a president focused on everything but the duties of the presidency
  • Trump bragging about the ballroom accented with gold he calls "God's favorite metal," designed to share aspects with Versailles but be "more beautiful"
  • The slip: he described "nuclear concrete" built to withstand a nuclear attack, revealing a fortress, not just a ballroom
  • Reports that he has grown more fearful of retaliation after starting a new forever war he was also warned against
  • Where the obsession began: a 2010 pitch to build Obama a ballroom that went unanswered, a snub he could not let go for 15 years
  • Trump on the Obama administration: "If somebody offers you a free ballroom, take it, right?"
  • "In the first term, I was under siege. Now is a much more powerful time," revealing how he sees this presidency
  • When asked what if a president decided not to leave after 2028: "It would be awfully tough to get you out. Nobody would be able to get you out"
  • How what he is doing to Washington's physical landscape mirrors what he is doing to institutions, alliances, and the truth
  • The dismantling of "Blue," the 24-foot Joel Shapiro sculpture at the Kennedy Center, which the late artist called "a celebration of possibility"
  • Construction beginning in two weeks on a 250-foot triumphal arch between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery
  • How the arch would stand more than twice as tall as the Lincoln Memorial, casting a shadow over sacred ground
  • Trump on the arch: "I'd like it to be the biggest one of all"
  • The federal actions around the neighborhood the day before, and the exhaustion of paying attention in this moment
  • Trump's inadvertent midterm admission in the Rose Garden: he won't get serious about campaigning until the final 30 days
  • Why that gives us double the time he has, and why every conversation, registration, and door knocked now is ground he can never make up
  • The new element of resistance: injecting Trump's failure and incompetence into everyday conversations
  • Democrats leading the generic ballot by six to seven points, the largest margin since the 2018 blue wave
  • Trump's approval at roughly 38%, with independents at 34% and 65% dissatisfied with his vanity projects
