Psalm 58: What To Do When You Want Revenge

Episode 1213 Published 3 weeks, 5 days ago
Description

Revenge feels honest when the world feels crooked. Today we sit with Psalm 58, where David is fed up with corrupt leaders, unfair judgment, and violence that keeps spreading, and he refuses to dress his anger up in polite church language. We read the psalm, talk about why the imagery is so intense, and face the uncomfortable fact that the Bible sometimes gives us words for the moments we wish someone would finally pay for what they did.

But we don’t stop at the rage. We talk about the line Scripture draws so clearly: be angry, but don’t let anger turn into sin. That means we can name injustice, take action in a holy and righteous way, and still refuse to chase personal vengeance. The most powerful move isn’t getting even, it’s taking it to the Lord and trusting God to do what only he can do, in the right way and in the right time.

We also unpack why God’s timing can feel slow, and why that slowness is often tied to mercy. “Hurting people hurt people” isn’t an excuse, it’s a diagnosis, and it challenges us to admit something hard: the people we want judgment on may need mercy the same way we do. If you’re looking for a practical Christian approach to anger, resentment, biblical justice, and prayer, Psalm 58 gives you a path that is honest and transforming.
