What Happens When You Finally Face the Truth About Yourself? | Branch Isole
Description
What happens when you stop running from uncomfortable truths and start taking responsibility for the life you are creating?
In this episode of Thought Atlas, I sit down with Branch Isole, an author, poet, storyteller, and podcast host whose work explores truth, personal responsibility, choice, consequence, spirituality, and the stories we tell ourselves.
Branch grew up in a military family, living in several countries and states before graduating from high school in California and attending college in Texas. He later spent about 15 years in corporate sales and management, where he says he became successful financially but ultimately disliked who he had become and what he was willing to do to succeed.
That realization led him on a five-year search through different religions, spiritual belief systems, philosophies, meditation, and other forms of study. He says this journey eventually brought him back to Scripture and to two principles he sees at the core of spiritual teaching: love God first and most, and treat others the way you want to be treated.
Branch then spent years exploring a spiritual path and says that, following three epiphanies, he began writing. Over the next 15 years, he wrote 22 books, along with essays, series, and articles. In more recent years, his focus has also turned toward studying and researching prophecy, the end times, and the last days.
Our conversation centers on one question: what does it actually mean to live truthfully?
Branch argues that freedom comes with responsibility and that our daily choices reveal whether we are willing to live according to truth, love, morality, and ethics. We explore why people can resist truths that might ultimately help them, particularly when accepting those truths requires us to confront our own choices and take responsibility for how we have lived.
We also discuss Branch’s belief that human beings share a spiritual origin and his view that love and truth should shape the way we treat one another. He reflects on the tension between living for ourselves and living with a sense of responsibility toward others, asking us to consider the difference between “What’s in it for me?” and “What’s in it for we?”
The conversation then moves into questions of spirituality, prophecy, and religion. Branch shares his perspective on God as universal consciousness and discusses how he believes religious teachings can become influenced by later institutions, leaders, politics, power, control, and greed. These are Branch’s own spiritual and religious perspectives, explored openly as part of the conversation.
We also examine the idea that truth itself does not change—we do. For Branch, discovering truth is only the beginning. The greater challenge is accepting it and allowing it to influence the choices we make, the way we treat people, and the principles by which we live.
Near the end of our conversation, Branch returns to a line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet: “To thine own self be true.” We explore what it means to live honestly rather than behind a mask, and why he believes the truth about who we are eventually comes into the light.
This is ultimately a conversation about truth, responsibility, spirituality, choice, and the courage to look honestly at ourselves.
