The Cold Case Solved by DNA 32 Years Later.. The M*rder of AMY LOPEZ
Description
American student Amy Lopez, 24, was murdered near Germany's Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz on September 26, 1994, while travelling through Europe after graduating with honors from the University of Houston. Amy had already been accepted to medical school when her life was cut short during a morning sightseeing trip. Her murder remained unsolved for nearly 32 years despite hundreds of leads. Improved DNA technology eventually recovered microscopic skin-cell evidence from Amy's clothing, leading investigators to an 81-year-old German man previously convicted of attempting to rape a teenager in 1999.
His original police DNA record had already been deleted, but a new voluntary saliva sample finally produced the match. Arrested in February 2026, the man admitted killing Amy when his trial began in August. On August 28, 2026, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
