Description

What if the search for truth isn’t primarily about looking outward—but about discovering what lies within?

In this episode of Thought Atlas, I sit down with Daniel Winrose, a 72-year-old Danish author whose lifelong search for meaning has led him through healthcare, alternative practices, meditation, spiritual inquiry, and what he describes as a series of mystical and transcendental experiences.

Daniel was born and lives in Denmark. In his professional life, he has worked part-time as a nurse and explored practices including classical homeopathy, brainwave optimization, quantum healing hypnosis technique, and naturopathy.

He is also the author of A Long Trail of Truth, with Volumes One and Two published in November 2024. Daniel says the books are intended to become part of a larger series.

Our conversation begins with an experience Daniel says he had at three and a half years old while standing beside a lake. He describes what happened as an out-of-body and unity experience with nature—an experience he says became the seed of his lifelong spiritual search.

He also reflects on growing up in a dysfunctional family and witnessing violence toward his older sister. Daniel describes how, as a child, he closed off his heart as a form of self-protection and eventually turned his attention inward.

From there, he shares other experiences that he interpreted as contact with a spiritual world, including what he describes as guidance from spiritual figures during childhood. Rather than presenting these experiences as objective proof, Daniel explains how they shaped his own understanding of reality and why he came to rely on personal experience as part of his spiritual development.

Meditation is another central theme. Daniel has practiced Heartfulness meditation for nearly 40 years, and he describes meditation as a way to quiet the mind, explore consciousness, and move attention from thinking toward feeling.

We also explore Daniel’s understanding of karma and past lives. He describes having spontaneous regression experiences around the age of 19 and later working with a regression therapist. He says he eventually created a database containing 25 past lives and cross-referenced experiences with friends and family members who worked with the same therapist.

Daniel emphasizes that, for him, the value of these experiences lies not simply in discovering what may have happened in previous lives, but in understanding how those experiences relate to his present life.

We then discuss his changing relationship with mystery. Daniel describes his life as unfolding through “stepping stones”—experiences he did not initially understand but came to interpret years later. He says there is still much to uncover and sees spiritual development as an ongoing process.

Finally, Daniel reflects on the questions he began asking himself in his youth: Who am I? Where did I come from? Where am I going? What is the purpose of my life?

His answer is not to rely solely on books or external authorities, but to become the experimenter—to explore one’s own consciousness, examine one’s experiences, and develop one’s own understanding.

The transcript does not provide the exact URL for his author website or the direct URLs for his social media accounts, so I have deliberately not invented them.

“From the heart, from within the heart, with the heart, everything is possible.”
