The Political and Social Crisis in Ceuta

On 2 September, Ceuta Day was marked by unprecedented, massive protests. The August Economic and Employment Update

Meanwhile, Spain's August economic indicators reflect mixed realities. The end of the summer tourist season resulted in the seasonal destruction of nearly 163,000 jobs, bringing total unemployment to 2.36 million. However, the labour market continues a strong long-term upward trend, boasting over 679,023 more affiliations than the same period last year. This expansion is heavily driven by the regularisation of 337,917 foreign workers, a process hailed by the government as highly positive for long-term economic growth, even though it temporarily increased registered unemployment queues as newly regularised individuals became eligible to register for employment services for the first time.
