Description

Today’s reading from Psalm 140–142 and 1 Corinthians 14:1–20 invites us to consider how our words reveal what is being formed inside us. Both passages highlight the power of speech and the need to grow in awareness, wisdom, and self-control over time.

In Psalm 140–142, David repeatedly brings pressure, opposition, and fear before God rather than allowing those circumstances to determine his response. Psalm 141 especially shows the rhythm of asking God to guard both the heart and the mouth, revealing a desire to remain faithful even amid conflict.

In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul continues addressing how speech functions within the gathered church. He is concerned that what is spoken should bring understanding and help others, reminding believers that spiritual expression should be guided by awareness of the people listening.

Together, these passages invite us to reflect on the way we use our words. They encourage us to notice what happens inside us before we speak and how God may be forming us into people whose words are increasingly thoughtful, restrained, and helpful.
