Description
Today's reading covers Joshua 24 and Proverbs 13:21–25 — and marks the close of the book of Joshua, the sixth book completed in the Lamp and Light Bible reading plan. Our reflection follows Joshua's final address at Shechem, where he renews the covenant, retraces Israel's history and God's faithfulness through it, and calls the people to "choose this day whom you will serve" before the chapter closes with his death, burial, and the burial of Joseph's bones — a promise fulfilled all the way back to Genesis. We trace the thread from Numbers' season of preparation and prayer into Joshua's fulfillment of God's promises, and revisit the crossing of the Jordan, the conquest, and the recurring reminder that "all came to pass, not one word failed."
In Proverbs 13:21–25, the discussion covers the disaster that pursues sinners against the reward that meets the righteous, the wisdom of leaving an inheritance for future generations, the injustice of fallow ground swept away from the poor, the call to loving discipline rather than withheld correction, and the contrast between a satisfied, righteous appetite and a wicked belly that never has enough.
