Be on the spot

If you’re on the spot, you’re in a situation where you have to answer, decide, or react immediately, often without much time to prepare.

And if someone puts you on the spot, they create that pressure for you.

Example:

Imagine you’re having dinner with a group of friends, and someone starts talking about taking a trip together next month.

Everyone gets excited, and then one of your friends suddenly asks:

“So, are you coming with us?”

You haven’t checked the dates. You don’t know the cost. You haven’t even thought about whether you want to go.

So you say:

“Wow, you’re really putting me on the spot. Let me think about it.”
