They Thought It Was Fireworks.. Then People Started Falling - THE AARAU RAVE SHOOTING

Published 5 days, 20 hours ago
Description

A deadly shooting at the Aarauer Rave in Aarau, Switzerland, killed 22-year-old Italian woman Maria Spinelli and wounded five others in the early hours of August 30, 2026. Around 3,000 to 3,500 people had attended the techno event at the Schachen horse racing track before gunfire erupted shortly after the music ended. Witnesses initially mistook the shots for fireworks before hundreds fled the area.

Swiss authorities launched a massive manhunt involving heavily armed police and aerial support before detaining a 43-year-old Swiss man roughly 24 hours later. Investigators currently believe he acted alone, although evidence indicates two different firearms may have been used and some witness accounts suggested multiple shooters. The suspect's motive remains under investigation, while reports concerning possible military connections and whether he voluntarily surrendered have not yet been fully confirmed by Swiss authorities.
