Keir Starmer resigns as MP after summer break
Published 4 weeks, 1 day ago
Description
Keir Starmer has resigned as MP for Holborn and St Pancras, timing his departure after the UK's summer break to overshadow new Prime Minister Andy Burnham's first day in Parliament. The resignation triggers a by-election in Starmer's London seat, presenting an early electoral test for Burnham as he attempts to consolidate support ahead of the 2029 general election. Nigel Farage has claimed the departure as a political victory for his Reform UK party.
