Telstra outage blamed on staff shortages and ignored warnings
Published 4 weeks, 1 day ago
Description
An independent investigation into Telstra's major July network outage has found the telco had too few engineering staff, insufficient expertise, and a lack of network investment. The nationwide crash cut off millions of Australians, disrupted EFTPOS systems and train networks, and prevented more than 600 Triple Zero emergency calls. Two engineers central to a failed systems upgrade were on mandatory rest breaks when the crash occurred, while CEO Vicki Brady accepted the report's findings but disputed criticisms about resourcing levels.
