America’s ranchers are facing a crisis that goes far beyond the price of beef in the news headlines. They are facing a multifront cultural assault on their way of life, economic viability, and ownership of land. I sit down with sixth-generation Nebraska rancher and rural broadcaster Trent Loos to expose a much bigger war on rural America — one that connects the dots involving foreign beef imports, shrinking grazing land, meatpacking consolidation, government subsidies, wind and solar development, and the explosive expansion of AI data-center rezoning in the heart of what should be beef country. Trent argues that America is rapidly losing the infrastructure needed to produce its own food while government policies increasingly make ranching and land ownership unaffordable. He also argues that the Trump administration is putting up smoke screens to placate ranchers while harming them with the policies he is actually pursuing. Also, Trent agrees with my point that data centers are not about technology. They are part of a larger battle over land use, electricity, transmission lines, easements, eminent domain, and the future of independent land ownership in rural America.
