The New York Islanders face a pivotal offseason as David Shuman joins the ownership group and fans vote for the Navy Lighthouse jersey. We analyze the deep center roster featuring Mathew Barzal, Bo Horvat, and Casey Cizikas, debating who makes the opening night lineup. Gary provides tactical insight on the defensive corps and goaltending tandem of Ilya Sorokin and Vitek Vanecek.
Key players discussed include Mathew Barzal, expected to score over 90 points, and Ilya Sorokin, anchoring the net. We evaluate the strategic advantage of the center depth chart, including Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Liam Foudy. The episode also addresses the upcoming September 30th matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the implications of the Metropolitan Division standings.
Topics covered include the impact of limited partner David Shuman on franchise stability, the fan-voted third jersey design process, and predictions for a 95-98 win season. Listeners get answers on roster cuts, specifically regarding Kyle MacLean and Tony DeAngelo, and why Victor Eklund could emerge as a surprise star.
