Back to EpisodesExodus Chapter 9: Plague 7 - The Plague of Hail (Part 2)
Description
The seventh plague continues as Moses stretches his staff toward heaven and Egypt is struck by a storm unlike anything the nation has experienced before. Thunder, hail, and fire descend upon the land, destroying everything left exposed while Goshen remains untouched. Yet beneath the destruction, something even more significant is happening. Moses is growing into his role, Pharaoh is running out of excuses, and for the first time he openly admits, “I have sinned.”
In this episode, we explore the strange imagery surrounding the plague itself, from Moses raising his staff instead of his hand to the fire flashing within the hail and the “voice” of God heard in the thunder. We examine what the staff represents, whether biblical objects can possess spiritual power, and the difference between the instrument God chooses to use and the God who actually holds the power. We also continue following the Word and voice of the LORD from Part 1 and the way these themes develop throughout Scripture.
We also return to Ma’at and Pharaoh’s increasingly heavy heart as he makes an extraordinary confession: Yahweh is righteous, while he and his people are wicked. Yet even this acknowledgment does not produce genuine repentance. Pharaoh still has something left to depend upon, and once the storm ends, he again makes his heart heavy. Along the way, we discuss the difference between recognizing truth and actually surrendering to it, the nature of evil and deception, and why knowing who God is does not necessarily mean we have given Him our allegiance.
