Actress Hayden Panettiere, known for Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise, died unexpectedly at age 36 on August 16, 2026, after being found unresponsive at an apartment in Greenville, South Carolina. Her on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach were at the residence, where Narcan was reportedly administered and CPR performed before emergency crews arrived.

An autopsy found no trauma contributing to Hayden's death, and authorities have not announced an official cause or manner of death while toxicology testing continues. The investigation has attracted additional attention because of Hickerson's documented domestic-violence history involving Panettiere and reports that the DEA is now involved. Just three months before her death, Hayden released This Is Me: A Reckoning, discussing addiction, postpartum depression, domestic abuse, motherhood and the devastating 2023 death of her brother Jansen.
