Peter wants Jesus without Calvary, and if we’re honest, we often do too. Recording on the road in Poland, we open a Gospel that refuses shortcuts: Matthew 16: Jesus predicts suffering, Peter rebukes him, and Jesus names the temptation to chase self-preservation instead of discipleship. From the start, we’re asking a question that hits daily life: how do we trust God when the path forward includes loss, confusion, or pain?

We also get practical and careful with the language Catholics use. “Take up your cross” does not mean tolerating abuse, excusing a destructive relationship, or pretending every hardship is something God deliberately assigned. Some suffering comes from sin, a broken world, or choices with consequences. The Christian claim is deeper: there is no suffering into which Christ cannot enter, and when we unite our lives to his cross, grace can bring something redemptive instead of letting pain have the last word.

From there we turn to Jeremiah’s brutal honesty, the Psalms’ unsanitized prayers, and Saint Augustine’s restlessness. If you’ve ever felt angry, numb, disappointed, or scared to tell God what’s really going on, we talk about why prayer doesn’t have to be polite before it can be real. We close with a lens-shifting idea: maybe faith is less about how tightly we hold on to God, and more about discovering how strongly God holds on to us.
