The last few years have seen our country deal with unprecedented levels of excess deaths. Naturally people are debating why — from the jabs, to what’s in our food, our water, and even our skies.

Some blame climate change.

But while statistics are important, each of those numbers on a spreadsheet was a human being, who no doubt left loved ones behind, and lost their hopes and dreams.

The Forest of the Fallen is the nation’s shrine to some of these people, but not all.

Most simply vanish into the stubborn and silent fog of this time.

Then last Monday, when Paul and I were waiting for Reiner, one of us made a comment about the excess deaths and people started posting eulogies of a sort.

This was profoundly moving and gave me the idea for this special.
