Story Transcript:
En: The sun peeks through the stalls, lightly dancing on colorful clusters of cloth stretched over the market in ancient Kartago.
En: It is late winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and the market is a hive of activity.
En: The air is thick with the scent of spices coming from distant lands, and the voices of merchants bubble like a crackling fire.
En: In the heart of this market stands Mareli, her bag heavy with coins, but her courage not measured in gold.
En: She is young and determined, and she has a goal in mind: she wants to buy a rare spice for her shop back home.
En: Mareli is trying to establish her name in a world of male traders, and she knows the odds are slim.
En: Her gaze falls on Anthon, known for his precious goods and his firm prices.
En: He is surrounded by customers, all eager for his popular spices.
Af: Die konkurrentie is strak, en Mareli weet sy moet slim wees.
En: The competition is intense, and Mareli knows she must be clever.
Af: Met 'n diep asemhaling stap sy vorentoe.
En: Taking a deep breath, she steps forward.
En: “Good day, Anthon,” she greets, her words fading into the market's murmur.
En: He looks at her, his eyes shimmering like the sunny sea behind him.
En: “Good day, madam. How can I help you?” he asks, his voice friendly but firm.
Af: “Ek is geïnteresseerd in jou seldsame speserye,” sê sy effens huiwerig.
En: “I am interested in your rare spices,” she says slightly hesitantly.
En: “I would like to make an agreement that benefits us both.”
En: Anthon keeps his eyes sharply on her.
Af: “My speserye is nie goedkoop nie.”
En: “My spices are not cheap.”
En: “I know,” Mareli answers, “but I believe we can strike a deal.
Af: Ek respekteer jy en jou handel.
En: I respect you and your trade.
En: I understand the culture through which you bring these spices, and I want to share it in my own town, with your blessing.”
Af: Anthon se belangstelling is geprikkel.
