What Tambo "Rice Paddy" Art Reveals About God’s Timing, Perspective, & Purpose
Description
In this solo sermon from the Solo Scripture Samurai Arc, I use the Japanese tradition of tambo art—rice paddy artwork made from different colored rice plants—as a powerful illustration of faith, perspective, patience, and God’s design. From the ground level, a rice paddy can look confusing, random, or incomplete. But from the right elevation, at the right time, a beautiful image appears. That picture becomes the heart of this message: much of life looks unclear while we are standing in the field, but God sees the full design from above.
I connect that image to Scripture by exploring how the Bible repeatedly reminds us that we do not yet see everything clearly. I discuss Job and God’s response to human limitation, along with passages like Ecclesiastes 3, John 13:7, 1 Corinthians 13:12, and 2 Corinthians 5:7 to emphasize timing, trust, and the call to live by faith rather than by sight. I also walk through how God’s plans are purposeful, not random, drawing on passages such as Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:16, Isaiah 55:8-9, Jeremiah 29:11, Genesis 50:20, and Romans 8:28.
This episode is ultimately about surrender. In life, some “rice plants” look like blessings, while others look like betrayals, heartbreaks, delays, or confusion. But this sermon challenges us to trust that God can use every part of the field—both what He plants and what He allows—to form something greater than we can currently understand.
