August 30: ST. JEANNE JUGAN: She Carried the Elderly Home

Published 2 weeks, 6 days ago
Description

St. Jeanne Jugan carried a blind, forgotten old woman home in her own arms — and started a worldwide order.

On a cold winter night in France, Jeanne Jugan carried an elderly, blind woman named Anne into her own home and gave her, her own bed. More elderly poor kept arriving, and Jeanne kept making room — begging door to door for whatever they needed. Though a priest later took credit for founding her congregation and pushed her aside for the rest of her life, the Little Sisters of the Poor she truly started now serve in more than thirty countries.

"She called what she did simply 'making room.'"
