Why I Couldn't Sleep: The Truth About My Dry Mouth Struggle | Episode 571

Dry mouth is not just annoying. When it messes with your sleep, your voice, and your daily routine, it can quietly take a real toll on mental health. I’m Justin Alan Hayes, and I’m sharing a very personal chain reaction that started with a dentist appointment and turned into a bigger conversation about medication side effects, self-care, and staying steady when your body throws you a curveball.

We talk through what happened after my dental hygienist pointed out chronic dry mouth and recommended a few common solutions: a mouth rinse, chewable lozenges, and dissolving discs meant to work overnight. Since I’m also wearing Invisalign retainers, I didn’t realize how much that could add to mouth dryness. The goal was simple: protect oral health and feel better. But after a few nights, I started waking up coughing with a rough, hoarse voice, like I had a cold. That sleep disruption raised a bigger question: how do you balance symptom relief with real rest, especially when you need your voice for filming and vocal work?

From there, we zoom out to the mental side. When I miss the gym or can’t work at my normal pace, my mind starts counting the days and piling on pressure. We unpack how to stay grounded, how to reset a routine without shame, and why being “ready to restart” matters more than being perfect. If you’ve ever felt thrown off by a small health problem that turned into a motivation problem, you’ll recognize yourself here.
