FBI Crime Data, Defensive Gun Use & Gun-Control Myths | Paul Markel
Description
The gun-control lobby has spent decades insisting that more privately owned firearms must produce more violent crime. Now, the government’s own numbers are blowing that narrative apart.
Mark Walters welcomes “The Professor,” Paul Markel of Student of the Gun, for a hard-hitting examination of new FBI crime data showing major year-over-year reductions in violent crime. Murder and non-negligent manslaughter reportedly fell 18.1%, robbery dropped 18.5% and aggravated assault declined 7.2%—even after years of strong firearm sales, expanding gun ownership and constitutional carry spreading across America.
Mark shares Alan Gottlieb’s response to the report and asks the question the establishment media refuses to confront: If more guns automatically create more crime, why did violent crime plummet while millions of Americans continued buying and carrying firearms?
Mark and Paul also expose the CDC’s removal of defensive-gun-use information during the Biden administration. Estimates place defensive gun use between 60,000 and 2.5 million incidents annually—but those numbers threatened the anti-gun narrative that firearms provide no legitimate public-safety benefit.
The discussion then turns to declining voter support for gun control, the approaching midterm elections and the dangerous complacency that can follow major Second Amendment victories. Winning one election or one court case does not make your rights permanently secure. The next battle is already underway in state legislatures across America.
This is Armed American Radio at its best: the facts, the numbers and the arguments the gun-ban lobby hopes you never hear.
