Description

Today’s reading from Psalm 123–125 and 1 Corinthians 10:1–18 invites us to consider what it means to live with an honest awareness of our dependence on God. Both passages remind us that spiritual maturity is formed over time as we learn not to confuse experience, strength, or familiarity with self-sufficiency.

In Psalms 123–125, the Songs of Ascents give God’s people a shared rhythm for remembering who they are and where their help comes from. Psalm 124 calls Israel to remember that their continued existence is not simply the result of their own strength, but of the LORD who has remained faithfully present with them.

In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul asks believers to remember Israel’s experience in the wilderness and to become aware of the danger of spiritual overconfidence. Their history becomes an invitation to respond to God with humility, recognizing that past experiences of His faithfulness do not remove our continuing need to depend on Him.

Together, these passages invite us to reflect on our own sense of dependence. They ask us to notice where competence may have quietly become self-reliance and to consider how God continues forming us into people who understand both our limitations and our ongoing need for His help.
