In the latest Beatline Podcast Network mailbag, hosts Paige and Craig answer fan questions about NYCFC's playoff chances after a 1-1 draw at LA Galaxy. Matt Freese made five saves in that match, keeping NYCFC in the game, while Thiago Martins completed 90 passes and Nicolás Fernández took four shots.
Listeners ask about the striker competition between Fernández and Malachi Jones, the ideal midfield trio featuring James Sands, and whether Freese is the undisputed number one. The hosts also debate which MLS player they'd add to the squad, with Evander and Cavan Sullivan as top picks. They give quick takes on the team's consistency and what NYCFC needs to do in the next five games to secure a playoff spot.
With a 7-6-8 record and sitting 7th in the East, the hosts predict NYCFC will finish between 6th and 9th and make the playoffs, but they warn that inconsistency could lead to an early exit. Tune in for the full breakdown and a fun hypothetical that could change the team's fortunes.
