Singapore Unfiltered: "Helmets are not the priority when cycling" - What do you think?
Description
Cycling is a regular part of Singapore’s roads, but the latest accident figures are raising questions about how safely we’re sharing them. 772 accidents involving cyclists were recorded in 2025, up nearly 25 per cent from the year before, with 17 fatalities. The increase also comes amid a broader deterioration in road safety, with overall traffic deaths hitting a 10-year high
What’s behind the increase? From cycling behaviour and road design to enforcement and the way motorists and cyclists interact, we look at where the biggest risks are and what needs more attention.
Steven Lim, President, Safe Cycling Task Force and David Ty, architect, member of SAMU (Safety for Active Mobility Users) join us to discuss how Singapore can make cycling safer without losing sight of the responsibilities of everyone on the road.
