August 27 | Remember Where Your Protection Comes From

Description

Today’s reading from Psalm 120–122 and 1 Corinthians 9 invites us to consider where our security comes from and how trust in God shapes how we move through life. Both passages remind us that faith develops over time as we learn to live with a deeper awareness of God’s presence, purpose, and faithfulness.

In Psalms 120–122, we enter the rhythm of the Songs of Ascents, prayers connected with God’s people making their journey toward Jerusalem. Psalm 121 places that journey under God's watchful care, reminding His people that their identity and security are rooted not in their surroundings, but in the Lord who watches over their coming and going.

In 1 Corinthians 9, Paul describes a life shaped by calling rather than personal entitlement. He willingly lays aside certain rights for the sake of the gospel, showing an awareness that following Christ shapes not only what we are free to do, but how we understand ourselves and respond to the people around us.

Together, these passages invite us to reflect on what happens within us when life feels uncertain or demanding. They remind us that formation includes learning where our security rests, becoming more aware of God’s presence, and allowing that confidence to shape how we live within the calling He has given us.
